„With stapp one patients feel safer“ – Interview with Ronja Wosnik from the Zürcher Rehazentren Klinik Wald (CH)

STAPPONE Rehab has been tested at the Zurich Rehazentren Klinik Wald in Switzerland since the end of June 2022. In the following interview, physiotherapist, and therapy expert for musculoskeletal rehabilitation, Ronja Wosnik, gives insight into her work with  STAPPONE Rehab .

Ronja Wosnik and her team were looking for a product for the Zurich Rehazentren Klinik Wald that measures the precise foot pressure: “There are many systems that show which part of the foot you’re putting pressure on, but when it comes to actual foot pressure, there isn’t a large choice. stappone was one of the few systems.“ says the physiotherapist.

Flexible use

STAPPONE Rehab consists of the intelligent STAPPONE sensor soles and a corresponding app. The app is simply downloaded from the Google Play Store and connected to the sensor soles. The prescribed load limit is set, and patients receive visual, acoustic and/or haptic feedback in the case of underload or overload during training.

“We use STAPP  ONE Rehab to check the partial weight-bearing of patients who had fractures, surgeries or ostiosynthesis. Primarily, we use it to check if patients can maintain their prescribed load limit. We also often work with different aids such as crutches or walking sticks and use STAPPONE Rehab to determine with which aid the patient can maintain the load limit in the best way,” says Ronja Wosnik.

STAPPONE Rehab is not restricted to any one location. Therefore, in the Wald Klinik it is also used to train movements like climbing stairs, standing up, sitting down, or turning around. Ronja Wosnik particularly emphasizes the advantage of the acoustic feedback, which warns patients when they underload or overload.

Safety for patients

Ronja Wosnik appreciates the benefits that STAPPONE Rehab offers patients and therapists: “For us therapists, it is important to find out whether and how far the patient is allowed to walk. It may be, for example, that the patient is only supposed to walk during therapy sessions and otherwise must use a wheelchair. STAPPONE Rehab helps us to assess the safe walking distance under partial weight bearing. Patients in turn get a feeling for the load limit and are also more mindful. Younger patients in particular have shown that they are increasingly able to adhere to the prescribed load limit after frequent use of STAPPONE Rehab.“

According to Wosnik, patients accept the system very well. After injuries or surgeries many fear that something could happen again and therefore often do not dare to put any weight on the leg at all. The certainty of being able to maintain the load limit correctly gives patients a sense of safety and self-confidence.

Easy to use

“STAPPONE Rehab is very user-friendly and clear. You explain it to colleagues in 5 minutes and they can already use it. It’s also an advantage that it works with the smartphone, so you don’t need additional equipment and the training history can be tracked and reviewed, even by others who weren’t there for the measurement. I would recommend it.”
