„stapp one can elevate the status of physiotherapy “. Interview with physiotherapist Sabine Schepperle

“As a physiotherapist, you are like a detective – constantly trying to find the cause” says Sabine Schepperle from the Physio-MED practice in Rottenburg am Neckar (GER). To find the cause of her patients’ deficits, she relies on the support of stappone sensorsoles and has already been able to solve very complex cases. In this interview, Sabine Schepperle tells us more about the successful use of stappone in her practice.

Physiotherapy of the future

Sabine Schepperle has been using stappone MEDICAL in her practice since July 2021 and is excited about the possibilities and benefits that stappone opens. The sensor soles are simply inserted into comfortable shoes and measure the foot pressure load as well as other relevant gait parameters. At the same time, the corresponding medical software provides live biofeedback, objectively visualizing the gait pattern.

“I use stappone with orthopedic patients who have gait problems or general problems with the lower extremities. I also use stappone with children who suffer from hemophilia, especially to show the parents where there are already early-stage deficits that would not yet be visible for the naked eye,” says Schepperle.

Detect what really causes the symptoms – a case study

STAPPONE Medical can be a crucial tool for patients. Schepperle had a very special case: A patient with bursitis in her left thigh (trochantor major) came to see her after a year-long medical odyssey. She could hardly walk anymore even though she had already seen many doctors and therapists and has gone through numerous therapies. Nothing helped: “I took a close look at her left leg and worked up and down the muscle chains with myoreflex therapy. But it wasn’t until I did a gait analysis with stappone that I found the real problem in her right forefoot! Just like everyone else before and despite my years of experience, I didn’t detect it with a common visual examination.” The patient had a limited range of motion in her right big toe. Therefore, she unconsciously adapted her posture which caused the problem in her left leg. After this realization, we changed the treatment. Today the patient is free of pain, can walk long distances and goes hiking again.

“Visualization helps the patients in the whole process. They understand the problem better and can carry out the physiotherapeutic training more effectively,” Schepperle explains.

Elevated status of physiotherapy

“For our practice, stappone is also a flagship tool that allows us to differentiate our services from other practices “, Schepperle continues. “With stappone, we can visualize the patient’s deficits and create a report after every session. It is good for the patient to have a report as a documentation for doctors or health insurance companies. Normally, I would have to send the patient to a centre for running analysis, which involves additional costs and time. But with stappone, we can easily perform this analysis here in the practice. We as physiotherapists have the possibility to contribute to diagnostics and to quality assurance of treatment and that elevates our profession. Doctors use passive and static diagnostic tools, such as X-rays and MRIs, and may not find anything. With stappone, however, we can examine the patient in motion and therefore find the functional cause. This can elevate the status of physiotherapy. “
