Measure stride length with stappone

Objective measurements with stappone software

Stride length plays a key role in gait analysis. It is an important starting point for detecting and assessing gait deviations. Until now, in our software solutions, this was only possible by manually entering the total distance. With our products STAPPONE Medical, STAPPONE Research and STAPPONE Physio, the stride length will in future be determined automatically for each individual stride recorded.

With the help of gait analysis, gait deviations can be detected and evaluated. It is essential to determine the stride and double stride length. In the future, the stappone products will record every single step and determine its length. The detection of deviations is crucial for therapy.

Objective measurements

The stappone products STAPPONE Medical, STAPPONE Physio and STAPPONE Research consist of the intelligent stappone sensor soles and the corresponding software. The soles measure the patient’s foot pressure load, and the software provides visual live-biofeedback on pressure load and the body’s centre of gravity. In the future, our sensor soles in combination with our software solutions, will be able to perform a full instrumentalized spatial gait analysis. A variety of algorithms have been enhanced or newly developed to exploit the full potential of our sensor insoles. Specifically, the captured gyroscope and accelerometer data are now comprehensively included in our evaluations.

Detect diseases

Neurological diseases can also be detected by the stride length. Parkinson’s disease, for example, results in short mini-steps. In this disorder, the centres in the central nervous system that are important for movement and control no longer function optimally. Affected patients only move forward with small, tripping steps.

A short stride length also indicates injuries to the ligaments in the knee and ankle joints. If a muscle is injured, walking causes pain due to the associated stretching and steps turn out to be shorter. For example, if injured muscles stabilize the leg in the stance phase, this phase will be interrupted due to pain. The stride length is shortened because the other leg is quickly placed forward to stop the pain.

With the stappone products, diseases and injuries can be detected using objective data and the progress of therapy becomes visible.
